MAGNETS! - Launch Devlog


LAUNCH DAY!

Dear reader, the time has come. Our game is now officially finished and fully playable!


Welcome if you're new! Let me tell you about the magnetic sumo-wrestling game called MAGNETS!

We are creating a local multiplayer sumo game where you and your adversary are magnets! The goal of the game? Push your opponent out of the arena! (or make a bullet or a bomb launch them out of the arena)

Now, let's get into the devlog!


Introduction

The final week of the production of MAGNETS! is over. The last two weeks we have been in a polish sprint, trying to make everything as beautiful and responsive as possible.

Let me get into specifics!


UI Cursors

The UI cursors have upgraded from boring squares to small little circles, drawn in the same style as the rest of the UI.
Each ball even has an indicator with the player number!

Look at them go!


Bombs have been upgraded!

We gave some polish magic to our bombs! What does that mean??

The bomb explosion particle has been updated to be more in line with our other electric-styled particles!

Bombs also leave behind explosion decals now! These stay in the game until the next rounds start.

Final HUD!

The final touches have been applied to our HUD! Last week we completely revamped our hud into a new design while keeping its functionality!

A few things have been added to it this week:

  • A point gets added with POWER now! A small animation plays when a player wins a round and a point gets added to the HUD
  • SWITCH! indicator gets shown on screen when a player its polarization switch timer is full


INTRO!

The gong intro at the begin of each game has been finalized!

The golden statues are now animated and the gong makes its fierce recognizable sound!



All kinds of other things!

Just like last week let me go through a lot of small things that have been changed/added:

  • Cannons have been retextured
  • The characters now leave footprints
  • A voice-over now says "READY! SET! GOOOO!"
  • The player now does a happy dance when it wins a round
  • Added scene transitions
  • The end screen has animations now!


the FUTURE!(?)

Next week, we will.. Wait... This is the end? That's right. Our magnetic, sumo wrestling, japanese game project adventure ends today.

Don't be sad tho! Now that you are done reading these devlogs all day, you can use all this free time to play MAGNETS!


The final build has been added to the itch page and also attached to this devlog.
