Devlog W05 - At the end of Spring Break
Introduction
Hello there and welcome back at the next devlog for our Magnet Game Project! Spring break has ended and we're back in the game! From now on, our game will be in constant development until the end of our semester (in ~6 weeks)!
For those who are new here, let me reintroduce our game! We are creating a local multiplayer sumo game where you and your adversary are magnets! The goal of the game? Push your opponent out of the arena! (or make a bullet or a bomb launch them out of the arena)
In this devlog I will tell you about our arena, our renewed game mechanics and the main menu that is taking shape!
The Arena
We have started replacing the blockout shapes in our arena!
The ring transformed from a simple cylinder shape to an arena that has lights, lines and a special compass in the middle! What does the compass do?? Find out in an upcoming devlog! ;) )
The stands are also taking shape with little seating places for the spectators that will soon be watching you and your adversary brawl it out in this arena!
Game Mechanics are BACK!
We've been hard at work at reimplementing all the mechanics we have tested and prototyped in the new version of MAGNETS! This time our code is clean and perfectly following the coding guidelines we have set up during the design phase!
The features that are currently in our game are the magnets themselves, bombs and stun bullets! During the next development sprint (starting in ~2 weeks) we will also re-implement the sticky bullets from our prototypes.

Since we are making our way to making a main menu, end screen, etc., some of our old design are being revisited and remade!

We used this design to create some different concepts for our main menu! Which one is your favourite?
FIGHT IT OUT... In the main menu???
Have you ever thought that destroying your friends in a game isn't good enough?? GOOD NEWS! In our game, you will also be able to destroy your friends in magnet-sumo in the MAIN MENU! (Or any menu for that matter)
How will this be possible you ask? In our main menu/end screen/..., you will be controlling a small cursor to click on buttons. But clicking on buttons is not the only thing you can do with these cursors. Since these cursors are basically players, you will also be able to play some magnet-sumo where-ever these cursors are! (Or annoy your friend by pushing/pulling them away until they ragequit)
the FUTURE
Next week we will be finishing up our first production sprint! This means we are halfway through until we hit the feature-freeze. The feature freeze is at the end of the second productino sprint and this means that no new features are allowed to be added tot the game.
I hope everyone is as excited as we are! We are going back to developing our game. We'll be back next week for a new update!
