Devlog W04 - Starting Production!

Introduction

Hello there and welcome back for another MAGNETS! devlog, courtesy of yours truly. We're creating a local multiplayer sumo wrestling game. But here's the catch: all the players are magnets! The goal? Be the last magnet standing in the arena and claim victory! But watch out for bombs and bullets,  cause they might push you out first!

This week marked the start of our 1st production sprint, which meant delving deeper into uncharted waters of the game-making pipeline. First step: planning, planning and more planning! We had to create a backlog of tasks, that we would then divide between ourselves. And that meant thinking ahead to every. Single. Possible. Task. That would be needed within the production of our game. A real head-scratcher...

Once that was done, every member of our team set out to work on their respective cogs of the beautiful, sumo-wrestling machine that is MAGNETS!

PROGRAMMING!

Our programmers worked hard this week to recreate and improve upon the features you've seen in the previous weeks' builds, this time cleaner and following the programming guidelines they'd set up in the tech document. These features include the vital base game loop, game management, player management & movement, the magnetic mechanic and the bombs.

This means that the bare-bones of our game is already set up.

Time to enter THE RING!

On the art side, we have been taking strides in establishing the important bits of what you see on-screen.

Firstly, of course, the arena! This is where you the player and your little magnet guy will be spending the majority of your time (unless you fall off).

Speaking of our little magnet guys, they have been fully modeled and textured, and hopefully you will see them running around your screen in time for next week's build.

Shaders! Another important part of creating the look we want for our game!

Lastly, the artists have been drawing out the all-important HUD. Without it, how would you know who won?

The FUTURE

Next week will be another week of production before our team goes into spring break for some much needed R&R. We will continue our slow and steady creep towards the final product, with more art, more mechanics and more MAGNETS!

As always, we have a stable build included with the devlog that you can have fun breaking. Feel free to leave feedback, comments or profess your love for all things magnetic. Whatever floats your boat.

Gooooooby!
