Devlog W07 - Magneat Little Game

Introduction

Hello there and welcome back at the next devlog for our Magnet Game Project! This is our seventh week of working on our game and things are slowly falling into place. Or rather : they’re being pulled into place. By magnets. This game is about magnets.

Bullets

Sticky bullets ! We now have sticky bullets ! This week , our programmers were busy doing, as they called it, ‘terribly boring behind the scenes work’ and ‘really just a lot of bugfixing’. In between all that, however, they managed to find some time and implement the amazing Sticky Bullet Mechanic, introducing dangerous metallic bullets to the game. These bullets have the power to either stick to the player and drag them along the map, or push them away, depending on the player’s polarisation. As you can seen we also added the player characters to the main scene, although their running animations aren’t fully implemented yet.

Shady Shader Stuff

It turns out using lineshaders in unity is a bit trickier than we anticipated. Over the course of the past week, the decision was made to drop the outline effect that we had included in our materials up to this point, since it didn't give the desired effect and caused troubles when building the game.

On the topic of texturing : we made some progress on the roof of the arena - which was modelled last week and improved upon over the course of this week. There are more assets in the pipeline, since we also modelled a nice looking gong to go along with the roof. How would our sumo wrestlers know when to start fighting without the sound of a gong ? Or when to stop ? They’d be gong crazy !

Little Cute Animations + Music

These are fun aren’t they ?

In other news : To go along with our game, we composed a full-on, four minute plus soundtrack. You’ll be able to listen to it very very soon. Keep your eyes (or ears) open for an update !

Overall

While the game is slowly coming together, we are aware that time is creeping up on us. But just like our magnetic sumo-wrestlers do so effortlessly, when they have opposite polarisations : we’ll pull this together.

Goobyaaa !
